Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road

George Miller (2015)

This is by way of a sick note.  I didn’t see any of the three Mad Max films in the 1980s.  Mad Max: Fury Road had received such rapturous notices – 98% ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes, from 247 reviews – that I thought I should try it.  I lasted only half an hour.  If I’d seen and heard the film out, it probably wouldn’t have meant anything to me.   From the start, I was conscious of gazing at the screen without much idea of what was going on and with even less desire to do something about that.  But the vertiginous camera movements, the percussion of exploding vehicles and people, and the shattering noise meant that my head couldn’t stand it.  I felt a bit guilty about walking but, to be honest, a lot more relieved.
